John Lennon: Salesman

John Lennon had a humongous impact on the ideas and values of Americans and people throughout the world, especially in 1969. In May and June, he and Yoko Ono stayed in hotels in Amsterdam and Montreal and promoted peace. They peacefully began an anti-war protest and wrote and recorded a song while staying at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel.

Lennon really sold the idea of peace to the public by bringing in people who had also had a lot of influence on the public opinion. Lennon stated that "many big egos came to see us there: Al Crapp, Dick Gregory, Tim Leary and Rosemary, Tommy Smothers", almost all of whom sang with Lennon on his song Give Peace A Chance which was recorded in the hotel room. This single, once released, was "widely adopted as an anti-Vietnam-War anthem in 1969".

Lennon and Yoko continued to spread their peace messages by billboards, which read "WAR IS OVER! If You Want It". These billboards were widely popular and went up in eleven major cities around the world.
